Privacy Policy
Last updated: January 2026
UppUpp is a gratitude journaling app built around short voice moments. We know that what you record can be personal, emotional, and meaningful. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data, why we do so, and what control you have over it.
This policy is written to meet the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Apple App Store Review Guidelines.
Privacy at a Glance
- UppUpp works without requiring you to create an account.
- You start with an anonymous session by default.
- Your voice entries and transcripts belong to you.
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not track you across apps or websites.
- We use modern security measures and EU-based infrastructure where possible.
- You can delete your entries and your data.
Who We Are
UppUpp is operated under the name creawie, which is legally identical to:
Ralph Pighin is the data controller within the meaning of the GDPR.
What UppUpp Is (and Isn't)
UppUpp is a private gratitude journal. You record short voice reflections, which are transcribed and analyzed so you can revisit your moments later.
UppUpp is not:
- a social network
- an advertising platform
- a tracking or profiling app
How You Use UppUpp
When you install the app, an anonymous user session is created automatically. You can use UppUpp without providing your name or email address.
You may later choose to upgrade your session by adding an email address. If you do, your existing entries remain exactly where they are and are simply linked to your email account.
What Data We Process
Content You Create
Depending on how you use the app, we process:
- Voice recordings you choose to record
- Text transcripts created from those recordings
- Reflections and summaries generated for you
These entries may contain personal, emotional, or sensitive information. You decide what you record. UppUpp does not prompt you to share any specific type of content.
Account and Session Data
- An internal user ID (anonymous by default)
- Email address (only if you choose to add one)
- Session and authentication information
Device and App Information
- Device type and operating system version
- App version
- Time zone and language settings
Notifications
- A push notification token (to send journaling reminders)
Technical Logs
We collect limited technical logs to keep the app reliable, such as error messages and basic usage counts (for example daily active users). These logs are strictly operational and not used for advertising.
Voice Recording and Transcription
Your voice recordings are:
- Stored locally on your device first
- Uploaded securely to our backend so they can be processed and synced
We use EU-based transcription services to convert audio into text.
Voice recordings and transcripts are processed only to provide UppUpp's features. They are not published, shared with other users, or used for advertising.
Because voice data can be sensitive, we minimize access and processing wherever possible.
AI Analysis and International Processing
To provide summaries and reflections, transcripts may be processed by AI services.
Important safeguards:
- Only text transcripts are sent for analysis, not raw audio.
- Transcripts sent for analysis do not include your user ID, email address, or any direct identifier.
- The AI provider cannot link a transcript back to you as a person.
Some AI processing takes place outside the EU (for example in the United States). These transfers are protected using Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.
AI outputs are generated solely for you and are not reviewed or accessed by others for content purposes.
Notifications
UppUpp may send you journaling reminders.
- Notifications are enabled by default.
- They are never personalized using your entries or transcripts.
- You can disable notifications at any time in the app settings.
Emails
If you choose to add an email address, we may send you:
- sign-in or verification emails
- essential service messages
At this time, UppUpp does not send marketing emails. Any future newsletters would be covered by a separate privacy policy.
How Long We Keep Your Data
We keep your data only as long as necessary to provide UppUpp.
- Entries are stored until you delete them or until automatic deletion applies.
- For free users, data is deleted after 6 months of inactivity.
- If you had a subscription, the 6-month period starts after the subscription ends.
- Deleting the app from your device does not automatically delete your data.
You can request deletion at any time.
Your Rights Under GDPR
You have the right to:
- access your personal data
- correct inaccurate data
- delete your data
- receive a copy of your data (data portability, excluding audio files)
- object to or restrict certain processing
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority, in particular in Germany.
To exercise your rights, contact us at info@creawie.com.
Security
We take security seriously and use appropriate technical and organizational measures, including:
- encrypted connections
- secure storage of credentials using the iOS Keychain
- access controls and role-based permissions
No system is perfectly secure, but we design UppUpp to minimize risk and exposure.
Apple App Store Information
For clarity:
- UppUpp does not sell personal data.
